Frequently Asked Questions
Can students use these free clinics?
Yes. International students with income under the limit qualify. Bring your T2202 tuition form from your school — you can claim tuition credits even if you don't owe tax, carrying them forward to future years.
Do I qualify for the GST/HST credit?
If you're 19+ and filed a tax return, you'll automatically be assessed for the GST/HST credit. For a single person, it's about $496/year paid quarterly. File your return to get it — even if your income was zero.
What if I owe taxes?
The volunteer will tell you if you owe. You don't have to pay at the clinic — you'll get a notice from CRA with payment options. If you owe, the deadline to pay without interest is April 30.
