Find the cheapest grocery stores near Metrotown in Burnaby. Compare prices at No Frills, T&T, Crystal Mall, and more.

Living near Metrotown? Lucky you — it's one of the best areas for grocery shopping on a budget. Between the big-box stores, Asian supermarkets, and a literal food mall, you can eat well without spending a fortune.
Budget Grocery Stores Near Metrotown
No Frills — 4429 Kingsway
The cheapest mainstream grocery store in the area. No Frills is a discount chain owned by Loblaw — same products as Superstore but with lower overhead and lower prices. Great for basics: bread ($2.29), eggs ($3.49/dozen on sale), canned goods, and dairy. Limited organic selection but unbeatable on price.
Tip: Download the Flipp app and check No Frills' weekly flyer — their loss-leader deals on chicken and ground beef are some of the best in Metro Van.
T&T Supermarket — 147-4800 Kingsway (Metropolis)
Inside the Metrotown mall. This T&T is large and well-stocked. Prices are reasonable for Asian groceries — much cheaper than buying Asian products at Western stores. Rice, noodles, tofu, frozen dumplings, and Asian produce are all priced well. Their hot deli counter has lunch boxes from $6.99.
Crystal Mall Food Court & Grocers — 4500 Kingsway
Crystal Mall is across from Metrotown and has several small Asian grocery vendors on the lower level. These tiny shops sell produce, dried goods, and snacks at prices lower than T&T. The quality is good — they get daily deliveries. The food court upstairs has $8-10 meals.
Real Canadian Superstore — 4700 Kingsway
A bigger version of No Frills with more selection. Their President's Choice brand is the best store brand in Canada — good quality, low prices. Superstore also has a decent Asian aisle. Located just east of Metrotown, near Patterson SkyTrain.
Walmart Supercentre — 355-4820 Kingsway (inside Metropolis)
Walmart's grocery section has expanded a lot. Competitive on packaged goods and household items. Not the best for fresh produce, but fine for pantry staples, snacks, and frozen foods. Great for non-food items too — cleaning supplies, kitchen tools, etc.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is No Frills really the cheapest?
For mainstream Canadian groceries, yes. No Frills and FreshCo are the two cheapest chains. For Asian groceries specifically, Crystal Mall vendors and T&T beat them. The best strategy is to shop at both.
Is Costco worth it for one person?
Probably not. The $65/year membership and bulk quantities make more sense for families or roommates who can split items. For a solo newcomer, No Frills + T&T is more practical. See our comparison: Costco vs No Frills vs T&T.
Where can I find South Asian groceries near Metrotown?
Fruiticana has a location on Kingsway (about 10 min east of Metrotown by bus). For a wider selection, Surrey's 72nd Ave has dozens of Indian grocery stores.
