Local Food Sources
For those new to a healthy lifestyle, or anyone looking for a local purveyor or food source, it can be difficult to know where to start. To help guide you through the millions of options, here are the sites we find most useful.
- Eat Wild is the unofficial guide to find local farms, grass-fed producers, wild seafood, and so much more. You can search for vendors in your area and learn more about which will be the best fit for you. There are also numerous resources about farming, healthy eating, and other related topics.
- Another farm search tool is Soil Mate, which also includes Market Stores, Restaurants, Wineries, Breweries, and Associations. They include a review system where others in your area can add comments and feedback to improve everyone’s experience.
- The Sustainable Food Guide is an extremely user-friendly and attractive site to help you determine what produce is available on a monthly basis in your area. With search options by state, month, and specific food types, you will quickly have options at your fingertips.
- The Eat Well Guide is perfect when you are on the road and want to avoid chain restaurants or unhealthy options. Search by location and key words, and find a snapshot of all restaurants that meet your criteria. You will get key information, links to their site, each location pinned on a map, and several filters for special needs. They even have city guides, like this one for Chicago, that give you a great overview.
